KhattarWong wins diamond case for Shangri-La Print

KhattarWong Litigation Partner K. Anparasan, together with Associate Grace Tan, successfully defended Shangri-La  Hotel against the allegation that a guest’s 6.41-carat diamond ring had been lost through the wilful default or neglect of its staff.

Justice Judith Prakash held that the guest was unable to prove that she was in possession of the 6.41-carat diamond ring when she was at the Hotel on the alleged day of the loss. The Judge further concluded that the guest had failed to  prove that the ring went missing at the hotel and the hotel staff who had attended to the guest on the alleged date of the loss were also cleared of any liability. Even if the ring had been lost within the hotel’s premises, the claim would have been capped at $500, as provided under the InnKeepers Act, which limits the Hotel's liability for the loss.

Mr K. Anparasan has more than a decade's experience in the legal field and many of his trials were reported in Singapore Law Reports and discussed in Singapore Academy of Law Annual Review of Singapore Cases. He has conducted numerous High Court trials and a number of Court of Appeal cases. To view his profile, please click here.
