The Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department held its annual Master Class at the Grand Plaza Park Hotel on the 22nd and 23rd of August.

In attendance were lawyers and consultants from various departments as well as clients, including several in-house counsel of large companies, who were interested in learning more about arbitration, employment and directors and officers insurance.

The Master Class was opened by Deputy Managing Partner, K. Anparasan who spoke on Directors and Officers Insurance and saw various lawyers and consultants sharing their expertise on an array of topics such as Criminal Law, Shipping, Insurance, Employment Law, IPT, Family Law and Arbitration.

In line with KhattarWong’s philosophy of continual learning, the programme allowed lawyers specialising in different fields to learn more about their colleagues’ work and clients with the opportunity to understand areas of law relevant to their field of work.

A cocktail event was held at the hotel that evening, at which lawyers and clients wound down after a full day of talks. Lawyers of all levels, from legal associates to senior counsel, mingled with guests who were able to clarify doubts they had about the talks.

Drawing the two-day event to an end was the Advocacy Workshop which featured lawyers in the litigation department participating in a moot court. A moot court involves participants engaging in simulated court proceedings.

In a mock case of alleged molest, lawyers from the department took on roles of the prosecution and defence, honing their argumentative and presentation skills as they entertained the crowd.

Presiding over the affair as “judge” was Senior Consultant Amarjeet Singh, who has amassed more than 39 years of legal and judicial experience and currently serves as an ad litem judge with the UN war crimes tribunal for the Balkans at the Hague, while a panel comprising Mr Anparasan, Head of Criminal Department and Senior Counsel Ms Deborah Barker, provided the teams with feedback and advice.
