In this article, Mr Ung discussed various restricted acts of copyright works and what they actually meant when one purchased a CD or a DVD. Purchasing a CD or DVD allowed only the buyer to enjoy the work at home. To play the CD or DVD in public or to do any of the restricted act may be liable for copyright infringement. But once a CD or DVD was sold, how it was to be used, the copyright owners would be totally unable to monitor or control and this situation gave rise to the formation and development of various collecting societies and agents. The article briefly introduced the roles played by COMPASS and RIPS and a flowchart showing the flow of copyright from authors to various users and grants of licences and collections of royalties by and to COMPASS and RIPS.
