The article introduced the Computer Misuse Act 1993. It discussed 6 offences of misuse of computer including unauthorised access to computer materials, access with intent to commit or facilitate commission of offence and unauthorised modification of computer materials etc and the corresponding penalties. Definition of computer would include mobile phone or any device that is capable of storing and processing data and information. A few cases were discussed to elaborate the applications of the law including the case of PP v Muhammad Nuzaihan bin Kamal Luddin [2001] which involved a young man to whom probation orders were given at his conviction. The then CJ Yong instead replaced the probation orders with a jail term as he was of the view that these types of offences were serious offences.
